Agenda Item 1: Welcome/Introductions & Reading of Rules of Respectful Engagement/Moment of Silence/Minutes
John and Marcelo opened the meeting, followed by introductions and the rules of respectful engagement and a moment of silence. The minutes of the November 18, 2024 meeting were approved with minor changes.
Agenda Item 2: Presentation—MOST Quits
Jennifer Cantrell and Rachel Warshaw from NYU attended the meeting as representative of MOST Quits, a smoking cessation study. Jennifer Cantrell gave a fifteen-minute presentation that addressed:
- The health effects of smoking
- Smoking and HIV
- Benefits of quitting smoking
- A summary of the MOST Quits study including what is involved and compensation
The presentation was followed by Committee Member questions and comments. Committee members asked for details about compensation for participation. They also asked about the use of peer recruiters used by MOST Quits to recruit others to participate and the qualifications for being a peer recruiter. Others commented on their personal struggle with smoking cessation. Jennifer Cantrell can be contacted at jennifer.cantrell@nyu.edu for study and enrollment questions.
Agenda Item 3: Presentation—A Guide to Conducting and Implementing an HIV Prevention Detailing Program for CBO’s Serving Older Adults
Doienne Saab, from the Planning Council, presented on HIV prevention detailing program for CBO’s serving older adults. The Committee provided constructive feedback. Doienne’s fifteen-minute presentation included:
- An introduction
- How to use the detailing guide
- A formative research discussion
- A development, implementation, and evaluation and monitoring stage discussion
The presentation was followed by Committee Member comments. Committee members commented on the importance of having guides that CBOs can use to provide better services to clients, especially guides that talk about sexual health among older adults.
Agenda Item 4: CAB Town Hall Subcommittee
Update and Discussion
On Friday, December 13 the CAB Town Hall Subcommittee met to discuss the Town Hall Run of Show. Subcommittee CAB Town Hall members gave updates to the CAB Town Hall Run of Show that were discussed during the Friday, December 13 subcommittee meetings. The updates and discussion that followed included:
- A presentation to be given by Michael that addresses CABs progress to date
- Suggestions for invited guests
- Potential format of breakout sessions
- Suggested dates for the Town Hall (Late March/Early April)
Potential dates and location of the Town Hall, format of breakout groups, and guest speakers will be discussed in detail at the next CAB Town Hall subcommittee meeting, which will reconvene before the next Consumers Committee meeting. Date to follow.
Agenda Item 5: Other
The next meeting of the Consumers Committee will be from 2 to 4pm on Tuesday, January 28 via Zoom. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
